A new life in Belize

E = Mc squared

Well what a week! the kayak is great! i have paddled to mexico n and back 3 times, a nice 6 mile paddle  or more as i like to zig zag up and down the lagoon with two fishing rods in tow. The first trip i took i was looking for the crocodiles and was in “Stealth Mode ”   i was gliding past some mangroves thinking this is a great place for a Croc to hang out when i saw a few bubbles.. a giveaway sign..the next thing the water erupted at the side of me ..Scaring the shit outta me ..it must be a croc after a ” LEAN”  meal nope it was this little git with a spear gun hunting fish inside the roots of the mangrove. Then the cheeky git asked for a lift to the other side of the lagoon so he didn’t have to swim. Well my fishing trips have amounted to “Jack Shit” but it’s all about the local knowledge i have been put on to some red heart worms that should do the trick ..but we have just missed the main fishing season and expect more luck from next april onwards.I went fishing with a guy called Nod who lives on the bay as we were fishing i recounted a story of catching a pelican in Florida and what a pain in the arse it was to catch and release it before it ripped it’s pouch and couldn’t hold onto fish ..as  Iwas telling this story, a young artic tern swooped down trying to get at  the shiny lures,  he was flying all around Nod and was getting within a few inches..he says he “tried” to push it away but for some reason he had a clenched fist and punched it …luckily Nod was no Bluto or Popeye bustling with muscles and the bird flew off. i did think of reporting him but his wife makes the yummiest cookies. So i’ve been changing my appearance recently in the hope that when we decide to buy some land i don’t look like a fresh faced Gringo ready to be fleeced..rest assured as soon as i strike a deal it’s coming off and i’m gettjng H to cut my hair.

In disguise

In disguiseWell we have left the lagoon and now reside on the bay in the jungle,our friend Bertlam has had his house sitter quit so we have moved in to his house whilst he isn't there..it's a lovely two bedroomed house right on the water set in 4 acres ..we have known him for about 3 years and will stay here until we buy land and build a place of our owen . His house sitter has taken his dogs so we were in a bit of a panic and i put another advert in the "Belize Forum" which is proving to be a great resource i got a reply back within an hour saying a guy had a german shepherd rotweiler cross ..but it was a 7 hour round trip so i rang him and jumped in the car and set off. Now remember i drove for 7 hours and in total i didn't see more than 10 cars .. there are only 3 proper roads in belize, no street lights, no cats eyes no white lines...... any way i arrived at my destination to find the pooch starring at me through the fence ..i was introduced by the owner to the dog... he jumped into the front of the truck and he drooled about 3 litres of saliva into my lap and down the back of my neck all the way home..not even a whimper. H loves him to bits and he is a bit of a character..i took him for a swim in the sea for the first time in his life and he was timid at first but stupidly followed me in and i gave him a good dunking ..he now loves jumping and bounding in the sea ..which is a real pain when i go fishing.Water Baby

 There are 6 gecko’s in the new house and the new dog sleeps outside under the palapa , he has a habit of walking in the red sand then walking on the tiled floor around the house i have had to mop it all down today ..yep just as i’d finished he decided to check my work and paddle more red foot prints all around ( we will have a heart to heart soon so he knows who’s BOSS)  this photo is of Bertlam’s house with the 1 year old rascal in the foreground. He had Einstein as a name but when you shouted it nothing happened he just blanked us ..We have changed his name to ZEUS and down he comes straight away.  A great addition to the family! 🙂

    Hi D&H. Finding your feet by the sound of it. I’d be there but with Avril thinking that crane flies are potentially deadly it will never happen.

    Your long legged Belizean German Shepherd/ rottie is very cute. We have our own reasons for liking this house, knowing it so well I would like to mention that maybe a safety harness and a bucket of oxy/water will remove marks by roof 🙂 Glad you are both there!
    The beard is you! Ponytail next? Love to H.
