A new life in Belize

Land Ahoy

We bought land this week by the sea, our friend Bertlam who’s house we are living in offered us an acre of his land 3.5 acres, since we’ve been living there right on the seafront it was an opportunity we just could not pass up. The land sits right in the middle of a coconut grove so that ticked a big box for us and we will look out over the tops of the palm trees towards the sea. We are still in the paperwork stages but Bertlams friend has already filed the provisional purchase of land forms ..so things (fingers crossed) should go smoothly. Between us we have agreed we won’t be putting up a fence so we all have access to the 3.5 acres and the dogs can run free.  As soon as the paperwork is sorted we will start to build so we are now looking for a trustworthy builder …take the uk ROGUE TRADERS program  x 100   and then you realise the mine field out there, but we have been to lots of peoples houses which have been built to a lovely standard and on budget, so there are good guys out there …finding them is the challenge. The photo is taken from google maps the red box is the land we purchased the yellow lines are Bertlams current boundaries.

We picked Bertlam up from the airport ..so we parked outside within 30 feet of the terminal no bollards, no police with automatic weapons ..so i went into arrivals ..got thrown straight out as there is nowhere to wait as it is the customs area..so it was sunny and hot and we sat outside on some seats ..a Belizian guy came out followed by two customs officers, they stood right infront of us ..the guy says there is no way i’m paying $100 he opens his wallet and the first customs officer takes the $20 and puts it straight in his back pocket and leaves ..the second custom officer says which two do you want? ..the guy takes a bottle of scotch and a bottle of baileys out of his own bag and then gives the customs officer the other two bottles..thats how you sucessfully negotiate Belize customs …it will only get worse as Christmas approaches … boy and i love Christmas soooooo  much  🙂

Bertlam bought some Lobster tails ..well 19 infact so we had 4 each and we were well and truly stuffed , Bertlam polished the last 7 off in a salad the day after, subsequently he put his back out flushing the toilet…MUST have just got rid of the MOTHER LOAD  🙂

Good luck with the builders, you might need more than a bucket of cray fish to calm the nerves.
