A new life in Belize

Rock Lodge

The house has started and is flying up, at this point we have laid TWO rocks!… at this rate we will have been dead 20 years before it’s completion  🙂  the weather has been perfect and we have been praying for rain and today we were rewarded with a downpour and the tank is now full ..and  80 degree’s outside ,we are sat in hammocks swigging on rum punch LIFE IS GREAT!!

We have been trying to get electricity since the 5th of Jan and were told we needed a transformer and they would fit it within a week, in Belize you ring someone and they say they’ll ring you back ..it never happens… you have to jump through hoops and continuously hassle before anyone does anything.  After 2 weeks i got fed up and rang a guy Bertlam has dealt with before…. he’s the Customer Service Director.  I got through and told him my problem and he said he’d get back to me in 24 hours ..Surprise Surprise! ..he never rang back and will not answer his phone.  We chased around for another week then ..someone said “transformers are not free anymore we have none in stock and you will have have to pay” …so they send us a letter saying they will pay 35% of the cost ..but i have to pay the full amount then they will credit my account with the refund (!) …but we still have to wait for one to be ordered because they don’t have any ….well to make the nightmare go away we just pay all the money ..when we get to the office ..it’s gone up ..but i just pay anyway ..the next day we go out for the day ..we get back and WHALLOP there is a transformer all hooked up with a working meter …the power of money ….. it probably paid everyone’s wages that week so they can make things happen when they want t0!

It was quite a stressful month besides the Electricity, Bertlam  air freighted some car parts for his new car ..i say “New Car” because just about everything on it has been changed …. well they arrive in Belize City, get stuck in customs, then a phone call from the agent acting on behalf of the UPS saying we need to pay more money which we did, then they fly the parts up and we have to pay AGAIN! …  email Bertlam …he says i paid for them to be shipped to the door …ONLY in BELIZE!

Bertlams mower was repaired,  worked for an hour  and the belt snapped so we got a replacement ..another hour the belt broke again…. it was a generic replacement.. a pair of H’s old tights would have lasted longer …….    So whenever LIFE got to much for us we ambled down to H Cove and supped more rum  🙂

All things considered, all tribulations, you have to admit, it is a very nice rock.

  2. Helen needs to be careful down the cove with coconuts that size hanging around……….:)

They kill 10 times more people a year than sharks worldwide.

Looking good folks, all the best with the house.

    • The barbed wire fence was installed by some anthropologists from the Belize Zoo ,they said they had no record of us (H & i ) as a primate sub-species and wanted to keep us in our natural habitat 🙂
